Ezinne, I just love your honesty and integrity so much that I have tears in my eyes. When I was taking black lit classes we discussed numerous times the “many shades of black” and how they’re treated in both black and white culture, but I’ve seen it show up less in mainstream conversations. Nonetheless it is real, I’m sure it’s very painful, and should be addressed as part of the discussion about race. It seems to align some with the whole natural vs. whitened hair issue, anyway.

All of that said, I am very proud of all of Markle’s accomplishments, and proud of my favorite royal redhead for not giving a damn about something for which none of us should give a damn. Would the family have cared more if she was dark? Quite possibly, but we don’t know. I’d like to think otherwise, and I love that they’re embracing her. Still beats the crap out of everything happening over here these days.
