I hate this. Many of my gay friends have children, and are among the best parents I know — perhaps in part because they had to go through more to get there. I was actively involved in one of my bestie’s adoption process, and he didn’t have any issues with an agency or social worker but definitely with some of the birth families (he also thinks he and his husband had it better than some). He felt like the social workers were just happy to find good parents, but I fear that “religious rights” laws like these will change the rules at an agency level and take it out of the hands of the social workers. And NC is of course the kind of state that will follow suit quickly. :-(
