Like thongs on women, speedos frequently don’t do a guy any favors. I remember being utterly repulsed by one on a guy in Hawaii — ironically also bright yellow. He was maybe 60, he had a nice big gut, his suit was way too tight, and he was with his younger wife. Our whole group was repulsed but of course nobody said anything because, to each his own, right? Chris would have been a welcome replacement though.

I saw the original article on Yahoo and read just a few of the reactions. Of course you’re right that the suit in Chris’s case wasn’t the issue at all — it was the homophobia. Of course it was wrong for anyone, gay or straight, to rip into him in their responses. I’m curious, though: for some of the gay respondents at least, is it truly that they think so little of themselves and have so little self-respect, or is it because they’re sick and tired of being mistreated by society and just want to get through each day unscathed— or are even running scared in our current political climate? I agree with you wholeheartedly that y’all need to stick together and support each other, but the real work is on the part of us straight folks. :-(
